“With IT for Education” - ECOO (Educational Computing Organization of Ontario) 2006 Conference

From http://www.ecoo.org/conference.php

The 27th Annual Conference will be held on May 3, 4 and 5, 2006, at the Delta Meadowvale Hotel in Mississauga.

The conference committee is hard at work, building an educational experience where you can meet your colleagues from across the province, attend sessions led by innovative educators, and see a large selection of educational computing products under one roof. Rounding out the experience are draws for great prizes donated by our vendors, and a Thursday evening comedy event. All at last year’s prices!

This year’s conference theme is “With IT for Education”. What’s in a theme, you might ask? It’s mostly a slogan that we hope captures the essence of the conference: the reasons for attending and the experience you can expect.

It’s partly “With IT” — “IT” as in “Information Technology.” Sharpen your IT skills at a full-day, hands-on workshop in the Pre-Conference on Wednesday. Or, you may wish to attend some of the over 150 one-hour sessions on innovative uses of Information Technology in Education in the Core Conference on Thursday and Friday.

This ECOO conference boasts Canada’s largest vendor exhibition of educational computing where you can interact with vendors as they show their latest and greatest Information Technology products.

Thus, the “With IT” also means relevant professional development — a great chance to “Get With IT!” with respect to the latest in Information Technology advancements for education.

But the second half of the theme is really important. It informs us why ECOO does these things. “For Education” reminds us that the emphasis at ECOO is always on the educational context. The IT is specifically for education. The majority of our session leaders are classroom teachers, sharing their best practices.

So, it’s not just IT (though IT’s great), but IT in a context that will be educationally useful every day and help you build yourknowledge for continuing educational innovation within your classroom practices. At ECOO, Education always comes first, supported by IT.
